Scoring
How is score calculated? Chips multiplied by mult. Everything in the game moves one of those two numbers or changes when they move. Full walkthrough: How scoring works.
What’s the difference between +Mult and ×Mult?
+Mult adds a fixed amount. ×Mult multiplies the total accumulated so far — which is why ×Mult is devastating once you have a decent base and near-useless without one. Placement rules: Joker order.
Should I build chips or mult? Whichever is currently smaller relative to your options. The score is a product, so balance beats stacking one side.
Jokers
Does joker order really matter? Yes, and it’s the cheapest improvement available. Same jokers, different order, routinely double the score. See Joker order.
How many jokers should I keep? Every joker occupies a permanent slot. If it isn’t contributing, sell it — the full list of quiet mistakes covers this and nine others.
Shop and economy
Should I skip blinds? Usually no — you’re trading three resources for one tag. Exceptions and reasoning: Economy and interest.
When should I stop rerolling? When the next reroll costs more than finding your target is worth. Name the target first; if you can’t, you’re buying a lottery ticket.
Planet card or joker? Once you have real multipliers, hand levels — they cost no slot. Before that, take the joker. Full rule: Hand levels vs jokers.
Hands and decks
Which hand should I level? The one you can assemble every single ante, not the one that scores highest when everything lines up.
Why do good players shrink their deck? Probability. Fewer cards means better draws, which makes everything else in your build fire more often: Deck building and thinning.
Difficulty
How do I handle boss blinds? Read them in advance — the game shows you what’s coming. Then classify and add redundancy: Boss blind framework.
What makes Gold Stake so much harder? Joker stickers: temporary jokers, costly jokers, locked jokers. Build for replaceability: Gold Stake guide.
About this site
Where are the joker numbers? Coming. We publish exact figures only after checking them against the game’s own data files, and we’d rather ship the mechanics now and the table when it’s verified. See the Balatro hub for what’s covered today.
